Ministry of the Word
The preaching of the Bible (the word of God) is central to the church.  Our preaching and teaching aims to be Bible-centred with Scripture being displayed on the screen for people to follow along with. We encourage everyone to bring a Bible along with them to check the Scriptures for themselves.
We generally preach systematically through books of the Bible, or do series on important doctrines. As of Oct 2019, our three regular preachers are currently working through John’s gospel, Paul’s letter to the Philippians, and a series on the Attributes of God, with occasional diversions into other important or timely subjects. From time to time, we invite others in to preach and teach.

Recent messages are available on most podcasting apps, or can be found here: City Edge messages.

Acts 6:4 (ESV) But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.

2 Timothy 4:1–4 (ESV) — 1 I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: 2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. 3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, 4 and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.

Prayer
City Edge comes together to pray every second Wednesday night during Victorian school terms, alternating with our Connect Groups.

We meet from 7:30 to 8:30pm and it is a time for the whole church to come together and pray intentionally for other churches in our city, nation and around the world. We also pray for those who lead our state and country as well as any special needs locally and globally where people have been impacted by natural disasters, wars, famines or wherever there is need.

We also pray weekly at our Sunday gatherings at 10am and at this time we focus on praying for our local fellowship, for  our visitors, and for local churches.

Acts 6:4 (ESV) — But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.

1 Timothy 2:1-4 (ESV)
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth

Charitable Giving
“Freely you have received, freely give,” Jesus said [Matt 10:8]. Christians, of all the people, should be known for their generosity, especially towards other believers. “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” [John 13:35].

As a church, we take seriously the call to be generous with our finances. We set aside a proportion of our money to give to charities and worthy causes. There are several that we support with regular donations; some others with frequent contributions.

And we also make one-off donations when we hear of special needs in the general community or with individuals from outside of our church family.

Children
Children are a wonderful blessing from God. Parents, alongside a healthy church life provide the means to nurture and encourage them on their lifelong journey with God.

Our Desire:
Our desire is to make disciples for Jesus Christ who will remain faithful and committed to Him throughout their whole life. We want to work with the parents and the church community to nurture, care for and inspire the children to be all they can be in Christ.

Babies and toddlers – 0 to 4yrs:
We believe that the little kids are as much a part of the church family as the grown ups. A bit of noise is part of family life! For this reason, we encourage parents to stay in the meeting with their children. We have a separate nursing and baby change room for nursing mums as part of our meeting room. We also provide an area and some toys in the meeting room for parents with young children.

Little Edgers – 4yrs and up:
Again, we believe that the older children are a part of the church family. We believe that the greatest way that kids grow spiritually is by learning from their parents. They learn by watching their parents worship the Lord with all their heart. They learn by watching their parents build friendships and care for fellow believers in the local body.

They learn by seeing their parents (and other adults) take the preached word of God seriously, following along with the message, taking notes, discussing the message afterwards, and applying it to their lives. This seems to be the Biblical pattern (see Deut 6:1-8, esp v7).

There is no doubt that much of what is preached will be ‘over the heads’ of our children, but everything they learn while growing up is ‘over their heads’ when they first hear it. We don’t refuse to speak to them just because they don’t yet understand adult language.

Because we consider children part of our church family, we enjoy seeing children build healthy relationships with other adults in a safe space, and in full public view. Many parent wonder why their children don’t want to go to church when they become teenagers, but could it be that part of the reason is that ‘adult church’ is foreign territory once they graduate from ‘children’s church’?

City Edge Church has implemented a Child Safe Policy, and all leaders have undergone both a Working with Children check and a Police check. A copy of our policy is available in our foyer, and is also available for download here: City Edge Child Protection Policy: Code of Conduct Version 1.0

We are also participants in the National Redress Scheme, which has been set up for those who have experienced institutional child sexual abuse. You can learn more about this here: National Redress Scheme
