This week, City Edge Church had the privilege of joining with Bethel Bread of Life Chinese Church for a combined service. It was a great Sunday of worshiping together in both English and Chinese. What a privilege to be united together worshiping Jesus with our brothers and sisters in Christ.
We should not belittle this. Where in the world can we find people of different nationalities, languages, cultures, backgrounds, experiences put aside their differences, and come together for a common purpose – that of exalting our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ?
Before the preach, Bread of Life put on an amazing play that represented Christ coming to earth to take our burdens and sin on Himself. Our Lord defeated sin to bridge the gap that separated us from the Father. It is the ultimate act of love and grace toward us.
Pastor Simon shared a message on ‘What would the world be like if Jesus never came?’ One of the key points was that through Christ and His death on the cross, we are changed. Before Jesus’ death, the cross was a fearful and terrifying instrument of death; a shameful and humiliating way to die. However, when we put our trust in Jesus and price He paid, we are changed.
When we look at the cross now, we are reminded of the sacrifice Jesus made for us. It brings a sense of hope to the hopeless, peace and unity. Because of the price Jesus paid on the cross, we can be saved and have a relationship with the Father.
What joy and comfort is gained by those who are saved by the blood of Christ. We are transformed through His blood and cleansed from a life of sin and fear. We are made clean in the eyes of our Father.
1 Peter 1:18-19 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.
This Christmas, let’s remember what Christ has done for us. Yes, Christmas is when Christ was born, and that event is what the world celebrates. But that’s not the end of the story.
Let’s take this time to share the full life of Christ with our friends and family. For a season that is joyful for so many, can also be a time of brokenness for some.
Let’s also share the good news of Jesus, who came to change the way we live our lives, and to make possible a relationship with the Father for those who believe. We can give people the ultimate Christmas present of experiencing the love and joy He brings to us through the blood of Christ.
Please be mindful that Christmas is not a time of joy for many. It is a time of loneliness, and regret, and despair. If you know someone experiencing that, why not invite them for lunch on Christmas day? Or ring them to encourage them.
John 3:16 “for God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life”
Have a merry Christmas and a safe one.
Also please remember that there is no church at City Edge this coming Sunday 29th Dec. Have a great New Year’s and we look forward to seeing everyone back on Jan 5th to kick off the next exciting season for City Edge. Can’t wait to see God’s continuing work in us and through us.
